just for the hell of it

The first one was done just for shits and giggles of some guy that likes making other people zombies too. My non confrontational way of taking out the competition ;)    The close up of the dude below him is someone that has been on my radar for months. He was also a fast and furious doodle drawn while in a hangout on G+

A couple of boys were commissioned by their mom ... she wants to show them what she'll do to them if they don't do as they're told.

zombie 12 step shuffle

Some people have asked about my process ... so in one of my more recent commissions I tried to document the steps. It's not perfect, the camera used to take the pictures is old, and I had to remind myself to stop and take a picture, which I sometimes forgot.

First I sketch in the initial layout of the face using red pen. I tried using blue pencil ... but the wax of the blue pencil doesn't hold the ink very well. So red it is ... and it is done lightly so it's easy to cover up, and red is blood ... so it all works.


Next up I tape it to my plastic board. Any hard board will do ... and green painters tape works great because it doesn't damage the paper to much.


Now I apply the first layer of color to block in the face and hair.


The first layer of red paint is applied.


The first black inks are picked out and you can see the zombie is starting to take shape.


Going in with red ink pen now.


Adding some shading with blue or darker green paint. A bit more red paint is added as well.


Adding some more definition using the black pen again. Also added black to the hair to darken it, and some white paint to cover up the reds in the eyes and teeth.


More blacks, reds and shading. Brought back the pupil, defined the teeth more and drew in the background wall. I like bricks.


Background painted, cast shadow added, pupils colored, enhanced the sores on the face and deepened the reds. Nearly done. Also added some reflective light to help pop it out a bit more.


A few tweaks here and there, some highlights added. Removed the green tape and I'm left with an image with a crisp white border.


So thats my process in a brief summary. It's changed over the last 6 months and it's always evolving. Now all I have to do is package this up and mail it out to the client along with some extra awesome zombie swag. Want a zombie portrait ... email me ;)

What do these 2 zombies have in common? First off, they're both on googlePLUS ... 2nd ... they both talk and interact with people that have them circled, and other than that, I have no idea. Oh, I remember now ... they're both green rotting flesh bags on a never ending quest for brains, and if you saw either one, you'd end them with a headshot.

More in common with each other than either of them ever knew.

Movember ... and a zombie

During the month of November, men all across the world are growing moustaches in support of Movember. To help raise money and bring awareness to prostate cancer, and cancer in general. I have taken it upon myself to help women show their support by drawing willing girls, and women, with moustaches and beards. These images are all available to see on my googlePLUS album located here.

And I have also, like always, been drawing zombies whenever possible.

Been a busy week and things are getting busier. Nearly finished theHORDE shirt!! This was a bigger job than I ever thought it would be but such a good learning experience. I will do it again but next time I'll do it right.

Also getting ready for the C4Con.com and making zombified images of 'famous' paintings. Here is one teaser image. Whatcha think?

10 days flew by

It seems the busier you get the faster time flies. So many things going on over and above family life that its starting to bruise my brain. That, or the infection is spreading internally and I am missing the signs. The hunger, the bluish green tinge to my skin, the RAGE!

Anyways ... I did another zomBthon the other day and here's some of the results, hope you like 'em

whooops ... its been a while

cough cough ... yeah ... this place is getting a little dusty due to lack of use/updates. I'll try harder to not let it go this long between updates. Been busy with commissions, finishing off all the portraits for theHORDE tshirt and doing live 'hangout' sessions on googlePLUS. I even had a hangoutparty.com event which lasted for about 3 hours, and I drew 8 zombie portraits live during that time. It is supposed to be recorded, and once I find the link I'll post it.

Anyways ... here's a bunch of commissions I recently did. Contact me if you want one done.

this guy actually fell asleep during the hangout, but he's from Italy I think and it was 5am there. I drew him sleeping while zombies munched his brains.

Yeah, missed yesterday. It happens. This really is the Almost Daily Zombie ... so there. More portraits in the works, more zombie kittehz being prepared, and 2 interviews done.

Still stalking the googlePLUS streams looking for victims. A few people are trying to bump themselves to the front but haven't found the way yet. Randomness is so much fun too.

monday MAYHEM

The weekend was filled with some good times, some bad times, and some reflective times. I attended the celebration of the life of my friend and mentor Marcel Debreuil, and found amazing people on the googlePLUS network. Did some self promotion of the zombie shirt campaign (shown on right) and picked up a few more kittie and zombie kittehz commissions.

It has been a rough week in the fact that swimming lessons for my children, while being totally worth it and potentially life saving, wreaked havoc on my schedule. Tomorrow I get to sleep in and have morning coffee.

On the plus side I've been having a blast getting to know people and spread the infection on googlePLUS. Doing lots of quick little 5 minute zombie portraits for people that aren't expecting it has been great fun. And a few more zombie cats have managed to claw their way into my life. Here's a peek.

This little dude went up for sale on etsy today, and sold within 2 hours.
YAY for that, but like all my zombie kitties, I'll be sad to see him go.

Saw this pretty little lady filling up my googlePLUS stream, so I zombified her.

This guy egged me on ... he got what he deserved.
