just for the hell of it

The first one was done just for shits and giggles of some guy that likes making other people zombies too. My non confrontational way of taking out the competition ;)    The close up of the dude below him is someone that has been on my radar for months. He was also a fast and furious doodle drawn while in a hangout on G+

zombie colouring book

I just released my first ever zombie colouring book under the banner the Zombie Factory, which is mostly a googlePLUS thing. Anyways, if you want over 20 pages of colouring goriness and access to other goodies, check it out at http://byronrempel.bigcartel.com/product/zombie-factory-zombie-colouring-book-1

busting my HUMPday

So much to do but as always, so little time. This first doodle was for Jason Byron - it was/is his birthday and although I normally don't do this ... how could I resist with a name like jason BYRON ? No candles though, so its dynamite in the brain instead.
The other image is of Gord ... who is now a gourd. :D
so damn cheezE it hurts.

wednesday ... whatevah!

So it's been one of those days where everything seems to want to go the right way, but at the last minute it goes the other. That happens daily around here. So WHATEVER!

Had a great conversation with the owner of Posers Gallery here in town ... I always feel better after talking with like minded individuals. Speaking of which ... the maniacal Martin Brandt offered up his encouragement during a IM chat and I played a loop of him on Vyou ( or whatever its called ) and it was funny as hell. Kept looking up at me from his book ... and inspired me to doodle him out a bit. A bit of a warm up doodle at any rate.

IF you want a charactiture of yourself, or a zombie portrait, send me an email.

the trouble with todays tuesday

Let's give a round of applause for unnecessary alliteration folks!
I tell ya, the day started off to early and hasn't really gone very well from the word go. Life with kids is a challenge at the best of times, but today I could just about pack my bags, hop a train and live my life as a hobo. If I was a total asshat ... which I'm not. Sure I'm an asshat, but not a total one. I could rant for a while but then I'd just be wasting more time, and I need to waste as little as I can.

Still cranking on the new BuyZombie website design, a little tougher than I originally hoped but it's coming along, you folks with big screens will really dig it. Also been pushing hard on getting some existing graphics of mine on to tshirts and anxious to start getting them on other products and pimping the hell out of it. On top of that I have some comics to draw and a fundraising campaign to organize and promote, an art show coming up on July 4th at which I will be doing zombie art demos and portraits.

Last night I spoke with a WPG dude on facebook about doing some art for his zombie anthology magazine and going to the Central Canada Comic Con in October. He got me extremely jazzed for that and it looks like I will be attending ... so I need to get my shiAt DONE. So today its all BZ and nothing else.

But I am trying to keep this daily, so here are a couple of sketchbook heads with a touch of photoshop color on one of them.
Cya tomorrow

my doodle is showing

Been feeling a bit over whelmed lately so I pretty much took off the long weekend to chill with the family, play some Wii and drink a little rye once the kids were in bed.

I like Rye, and it likes me.
Back to the regular schedule now, and seeing the end of a few projects coming up fast, but as always, there are other projects lurking in the shadows. Waiting until I let my guard down so they can jump me and beat the shiAt outta me.

Here's a doodle that I did on the cover of my big ass watercolor pad.

searching across time and space

That title pretty much sums up my existence these days. Searching for time and space ... mostly time. I am getting things done as slow as ever but now I'm doing it at every chance I get, and the results get posted here. I'm trying to work on my color blending and just laying out the shapes in red pen then going over it in black. I like the results but some people think the red pen detracts from the image. I could take that out with photoshop but I like it there. What's your thoughts?

whenever I start

something interrupts me.
Usually it's one of my kids needing something, or stirring up some shit with a sibling ... or on occasion doing something dangerously stupid. So I have to get up and intervene. It's the life of a parent. Then when I get back to the drawing I forget where I was, or what I was doing, and it takes a while to get back into "theGROOVE".

Then ... just as I started getting into the swing of things again ... something interrupts me.
It's a vicious cycle.

the only good cat

is an undead cat. Well, considering how cats are such jerks and quietly plotting our deaths, an undead cat would most likely be a terrible thing. A horde of undead cats would be a real friggin' nightmare. This image was inspired by my own cat Charlie ... who whines like a damn banshee until he is fed. Then when he's done eating everything in his bowl he whines for more. He's old (15yrs) so we put up with it, occasionally squirting him with a water gun to shut him up for a while.
This next image is a preview of the return of my webcomic Rise of the Zombie. The ember of desire to finish this has suddenly exploded in to an inferno and I've been plotting it out like made and doing lots of sketches as well. Once I have my few client projects and commisions out of the way I am going to focus solely on the comic monsterBAD and Rise of the Zombie.

out of my head

and on to the paper ... for better or worse.

Family life keeping me busy, plus lots of work getting ready for August and OCTOBER. On top of that the weather is getting nicer so there's lots of outside time ( moving bodies previously covered with snow, digging shallow graves, etc )

I haven't been able to keep this daily because of everything going on, but a question I have for the 3 or 4 regular readers is ... do you want it daily even if its just doodles and scrapbook type stuff or just post finished and more complete works?

anyhoo - back to the digging

my zombie wife

well ... it's not really her PER SE but she did unknowingly pose for this. My wife has more face and isn't missing an arm.

Lots going on these days ... working on a book, several covers for other peoples books and trying to get my art prints, sketchcards and zombie portraits available to the masses. Also making inroads with other design firms and graphic companies that have taken interest in my doodles, and I've started concept drawings in earnest for a new ( non zombie ) comic that will one day see the light of day.

tuesday troubles

It all started at 6:30 this morning. The wind was howling outside when 30 minutes before the alarm was set to go off the BOYS awoke. After that it has been a whirlwind of bustle and busy with not nearly enough time to put pen to paper. Most of my time today has been taking up doing computer graphics for a publisher and my own site ... plus varoius other chores and nefarious deeds. This image however, was drawn while waiting in the truck.

And then ... while having a cup of coffee with my better half, I doodled out a 'known' character and really didn't do him justice. And yes, I know that one arm is bigger than the other.

Cya tomorrow.

i hate mondays guts

for no other reason than it means early morning rush to get kids fed and daughter to school. And usually shopping. I hate shopping too. This was a little doodle I did while waiting in the truck to pick up the kids from school. Watercoloured it up yesterday for the hell of it.

weirdly wired

It's sunday and I'm hungry and feeling lazy. It's cold outside so I'm staying in to work on and finish up idrawzombies.com and paint with the kids some more. The sketchcard below above was just a bit of random directionless doodling that eventually took a life of its own and decided it needed wires and old school transistors. I was powerless to stop this.

tuesday cometh

The zombizman works relentlessly through the day answering phones, attending meetings, talking brains around the water cooler and then after a to short lunch break its more meetings and phone conferences and the occasional productivity evaluation. No real work is accomplished, no real job satisfaction is achieved. Such is the life of the zombizman.
By night he hunts ... letting loose the frustrations of the day on some unsuspecting victim.

These 2 images were doodled out while watching my eldest try to throw huge rocks in to a house.

sally was here

and now she's dead ... probably.

This was done a month or so ago in preparation for the art show I was doing but it wasn't quite good enough to get in. It's a little sub image for today because this month is a crazy month run by crazy people demanding we crazily spend our money on crazy shit we don't need to give to crazy people we are crazy about because they are going to give us a crazy gift that we would be crazy to refuse, all in a vain and crazy effort to show our love or appreciation for each other. Why not just go for coffee and talk about it.

monday night droolings ...

... or drawings, or doodles, or whatevers ... just playing around with light pencils, heavy colors and a touch of ink to seal the deal. I'm kind of liking this way of doing things and I am going to keep exploring it, and I think I am going to start working bigger.

In other news ... my prints are selling slowly but steadily, and the new ones are due to arrive next week, including my 3 foot tall banner for when I finally attend a convention.

the rest of yesterday

Just a quick update to a doodle i had started yesterday, and spent a few minutes finishing today. Going to try to go line free on my next one as per Jeremy's suggestion.
