It's been a minute . . .

 Hey there!

I wonder how many people are still artound this old place. It really doesn't matter though .. .  restarts, fresh rebeginnings and other made up words that conjure up a rebirth.
Heard it done it this aint the third or fourth restart -  but that's how viruses go.

The infection first took hold of me back in 2009 - we got proof - and then it spread onto the internet. It had flare ups and spread into different internet communities and onto different internet platforms. There were flareups here and there with the Google Plus (long gone now) being the biggest source of new zombies for the Horde . . . until the blockchain came around and plunged me and the Horde down a rabbit hole I never knew existed but always knew I wanted.

It was during the time of the global quarantine that forced me to look at alternative ways to spread the message of the Horde. Lockdown and pandemic measures where in place, so conventions were out.
The came the call to crypto. Unexpected and weirdly enough, at just the right time. I concentrated heavily on the WAX blockchain which was great fun and helped me build a great community of people that enjoyed. the darker side of art. The blockchain let me give my art away freely and others could go and sell it for profit. It made more sense at the time. It was fun - I learned a lot of lessons.

But now after so long on the blockchain it is time to once again get grass roots and start building up the Horde the way it began. This time I have help and in the past 17 years so many doors have opened and offers to help been issued - its time to cash in some of those chips and let the Horde grow into the global phenomenon we all know it should be.

There will be heavy concentration on gamifying my artwork, my posting, and everything else we can think of gamifying to make it fun for you to be a part of the Horde, and reward you when you support us. I have learned that the Horde is more than just me. I am the Horde, but you are also the Horde. Together we are the Horde.

Petey the Zombie Cat

I'm a big fan of art cards because I like working small, and I'm a big fan of painting cats and a bit of a self proclaimed zombie fanatic, so I make a lot of artcard zombie cats. This one was named Petey by my middle child. There is no reason other than that. I adjusted the eyes a little in photoshop, and if you want to see the actual untouched image, then you should adopt Petey by clicking here.

Two Half Zombie

This is what happens when Byron Rempel takes two pieces of paper, puts them together and starts to draw a head. Then each piece is separated and painted created two distinct zombie heads, that are actually one. It creates an interesting effect and while it was only created to pass the time, it is something that will probably be done again in the near future.

So ... new post in a long time ... how have you been?
I've been stupid busy with family events and life issues in general. Trying to get the blogs set up and running better and also trying to get more involved in other social media platforms like instagram, as well as getting more regular with updating the stores with new products. It's a lot of work for one person to do, never mind creating new artwork.

And now I'm going to go back and update some more parts of this blog.

It has been one hell of a tough month for me and mine. Without going in to a lot of details I'll just say health for everyone here is doing better, but other issues will be life long. Everything all at once was enough to make me just quit the internet for a while. I haven't been online in any real capacity except to post a few sketches a couple weeks back, and to paint this zombie portrait.

The photo doesn't really do the image justice ... so much is lost on the screen.

There are other things I have created while offline and I'll be rolling those out over the next few days, and I'm also about to launch a new indiegogo campaign ... so stay tuned.

 

past the FU ... or ... FUCK YOU to the past

Sometimes when I have to much time to think or things are going a little more bleak than usual I reflect on the past and the choices that I have made and the misadventures I had. Sometimes I reflect on how I was raised or what and how I was taught. Other times it might be how I was treated, or treated myself, or even just the mistakes I made.
There's a lot of things I would like to change about where I came from and how I developed, and there are a lot of mistakes I wish were never made. But that's life and you can't change the past. You can only learn from it and keep moving forward.
So instead of dwelling on things I can't change, I'm trying hard to focus on just changing myself.

Time to move on ... and part of the moving on is bringing back the daily zombie, but instead of just daily drawings and stuff I'm going to start to talk about what its like trying to be a work from home artist and support your family doing that. It's a tough gig and I'm probably doing everything wrong.

With this blog I am going to try to talk about the mistakes I've made so you can hopefully avoid them, the things I've learned about building an audience, how and where to sell your work online, and other stuff. As I've said, I'm probably doing a lot of things wrong so while I am making these posts I'll be able to hopefully push myself in to really looking at what I'm doing and maybe learn a few new things too.

At least that's the plan.

First words of advice for anyone that wants to quit their day job and do art full time ... before you do, get a years worth of savings because you're going to need it.

Tomorrow I'll talk about what I wish I knew before starting on this path.
